It’s been a week of honors for current and past OSCPA Executive Board members, as Maggie Gilmore, CPA, MT, CGMA, has been named BDO’s 2019 Working Mother of the Year; and Jessie Wright, CPA, CVA, CGMA, was named by CPA Practice Advisor as a 2019 40 Under 40 Honoree.
Gilmore, tax managing director at BDO Columbus, is a former Society Executive Board, as well as incoming chair of the Accountancy Board of Ohio. With more than 20 years of public accounting experience, Gilmore leads BDO’s federal income tax strategy and compliance for publicly traded and middle-market companies. Beyond her dedication to her career and role on the Accountancy Board of Ohio, Gilmore’s top priority is being an active parent.
“Being present in my son’s life is extremely important to me, and BDO’s commitment to workplace flexibility has allowed me to not only excel in my career but also be present for my family,” Gilmore said. “It’s truly an honor to be awarded with this title.”
Wright, a current OSCPA Executive Board member, is a manager at SSB CPA in Canfield and a lecturer at Youngstown State University. In addition to mentoring students and young professionals at her firm and at Youngstown State, she was a 2017 member of the AICPA Leadership Academy; a speaker for OSCPA learning events and Accounting Career Days; and has been published in The Journal of Corporate Accounting & Finance and The Journal of Business & Economics Research.
“Making a difference to me is all about giving back and investing in the future of the profession,” Wright said. “I am blessed to interact with many future CPAs and young professionals through my role as Lecturer at Youngstown State University and involvement with the Ohio Society of CPAs. Providing encouragement and mentorship to them is pivotal. They are the future and providing opportunities for those that will protect and advance our profession is very rewarding.”
